Pokemon Cakes

I’ve finally took some time off to catch up on my blog posts, and I first wanted to give this two-tier Pokemon cake a proper blog post because it has been super-popular on Pinterest thus far!  I made this cake in May of 2016 for Evie’s 10th Birthday party.  This is very similar to a cake design that my client sent me a photo of, however, I’d like to think that I make improvements & changes where I can, or where the client tells me.  Personally, I prefer that cakes are always personalized with the celebrant’s name and age, which I added to the Pokeball portion of this cake.  The bottom tier was an 8″ chocolate and vanilla marble cake with Oreo buttercream filling.  The top tier was a 6″ rainbow swirl cake with a strawberry vanilla cream filling.  I also made some matching mini cupcakes with custom edible wafer paper images.

I also made another Pokemon cake in October 2016.  This was about a 9″ half sphere covered in fondant.  It also came with two dozen regular size Pikachu & Pokeball custom edible image cupcakes.  Happy 7th Birthday Avery!

Basketball cake

This is a three-tier fondant covered cake decorated with a bunch of edible images!  My client wanted a large cake for her son’s 10th birthday that was themed after his favorite basketball team, the Golden State Warriors.  For inspiration, my client sent me a lot of Warriors logos, so I thought it would be fitting for them to be allover the cake like posters on a wall.  The bottom tier is a 10″ chocolate & vanilla marble cake with Oreo buttercream, and the middle tier was an 8″ lemon cake with raspberry buttercream.  The top tier was a 5″ Rice Krispy basketball covered in chocolate ganache and fondant.  This cake was certainly a hit!  Here’s a review from my client: “Joy, Thank you so SO much for making the most amazing cake I’ve purchased yet! I got so many compliments on the style and creativity on the cake! The lemon raspberry selection was an absolute hit!  Just had to share and send my deepest appreciation for the cake! I will definitely be in touch!!!” XOXO, ~D

Paris 1st Birthday Cake & Cupcakes

Last weekend I had the pleasure of making Amelie’s 1st birthday cake, smash cake & cupcakes.  Might I add, isn’t that the perfect theme for a little girl named Amelie? The main cake consisted of two tiers, a 6″ & 8″, covered in quilted pink fondant.  This was my first time doing that fondant texture, and I thought it looked really beautiful, especially adorned with the black dragees (beads).  All the decorations were edible with exception to the Eiffel Tower topper, which was a metal model provided by the client.  The bow was made of gum paste in order to hold it’s structure, and I started constructing that three days in advance.  Thank goodness the bow worked out because it’s a big part of the design!  The black & white damask print was an edible image I printed, and I thought it added a nice touch. Even though this was a Paris-themed cake, the coolest part is that it also reflected the client’s Filipino heritage!  This was an Ube (purple yam) cake filled with leche flan, ube buttercream, macapuno (young coconut strings), and the bottom tier had ube cream cheese.  The cupcakes were red velvet with pink cream cheese, and the other cupcakes were pink cake and vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream.  Twelve of the cupcakes had piped flowers, with the use of Russian nozzles. Thank you, Renelen, for hiring me to make desserts for your daughter’s special birthday!  Happy 1st Birthday Amelie!  Hope you loved your cake!
