Paris 1st Birthday Cake & Cupcakes

Last weekend I had the pleasure of making Amelie’s 1st birthday cake, smash cake & cupcakes.  Might I add, isn’t that the perfect theme for a little girl named Amelie? The main cake consisted of two tiers, a 6″ & 8″, covered in quilted pink fondant.  This was my first time doing that fondant texture, and I thought it looked really beautiful, especially adorned with the black dragees (beads).  All the decorations were edible with exception to the Eiffel Tower topper, which was a metal model provided by the client.  The bow was made of gum paste in order to hold it’s structure, and I started constructing that three days in advance.  Thank goodness the bow worked out because it’s a big part of the design!  The black & white damask print was an edible image I printed, and I thought it added a nice touch. Even though this was a Paris-themed cake, the coolest part is that it also reflected the client’s Filipino heritage!  This was an Ube (purple yam) cake filled with leche flan, ube buttercream, macapuno (young coconut strings), and the bottom tier had ube cream cheese.  The cupcakes were red velvet with pink cream cheese, and the other cupcakes were pink cake and vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream.  Twelve of the cupcakes had piped flowers, with the use of Russian nozzles. Thank you, Renelen, for hiring me to make desserts for your daughter’s special birthday!  Happy 1st Birthday Amelie!  Hope you loved your cake!
